Word of the Week: SELF-CONTROL

"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it," (Genesis 3:6). The definition for self-control is control or restraint of oneself or one's actions, feelings, etc. Self-control is in every part of our life. Sometimes we have to control our eating especially if we are diabetic. Other times we may have to have self-control when it comes to doing something were not supposed to or something that is illegal. Self-control is something that everyone struggles with on a daily basis. I struggle with it sometimes when my dad asks me or tells me to do something like clean my room or do the dishes. I don't like doing these things, but I must remember to control myself, and my emotions and just do what he asks me to do. By: Kaela H.

Tutoring (after school Homework help)

ACS will be offering tutoring to students who are in need of a little extra help. The tutoring will take place in the language room after school from 3:30 to 4:30 on Monday through Friday. The cost will be $5 per session. The teacher who will be tutoring the students is Ms. Thomas. This is a great opportunity for those who need a little extra support to catch up and even excel. If more than six students are in attendance, we will get a second tutor to help out!

half day friday

This Friday we will dismiss at 11:30 for teacher in-service. Student Council has chosen the theme, “Crazy Hat Day.” Remember, you don’t have to wear uniforms that day, but stay within the dress code!

"RAM JAM!" ACS MID-SCHOOL CHOIR ANNOUNCEMENT

The choir will be meeting soon after school. Please let Ms. Custer know if your child will be joining by emailing her at entertainingangels@comcast.net or stopping in her classroom upstairs ASAP. Also, please let her know what days would work for rehearsals, and she will try to work with schedules as much as possible. Their is a $50 per semester fee but if this is a problem, please talk to Mr. Adams before you just decide not to participate.

student council donuts

Student council will begin selling donuts again this Thursday, September 2nd. They will sell donuts each Thursday before school. If you would like to purchase a donut before school, make sure you bring your 75 cents!

PICTURE DAY

Tuesday, September 14th, is picture day. This will be a non-uniform day; however, please have your children dress up for their pictures. You may look in the handbook for an outline of the dress for non-uniform days. We will follow that dress code for the day.

Kids love to dance

Kids love to dance is a gymnastics and dance class for boys and girls in pre-school through kindergarten. It is a wonderful program that will really help your child with coordination, rhythm, and hand eye coordination. If you would like more information, pick up a flyer at the front desk or call Pamela at 293-3050.

SPANISH CLASS

Come sing and learn Spanish with doňa María after school this semester. This is a good opportunity for your kindergarten through fifth grade children to get a good introduction to the language before our mid-school classes. If you are interested or would like more information, call María at 797-8980 or see the flyer at the front desk.

MEET TO PRAY

Every Monday after assembly, a group of parents meets to pray in the library. They pray for the children, the teachers, the school, the Church, and any other requests that may come up. What a blessing they are to the school! We would like to invite anyone who wants to share in this time of prayer to join us.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS

This year’s first big fundraiser is underway. The books have been sent home. This year's book has some good additions that will help you to sell them. Start letting your family and co-workers know about their chance to purchase one of these very valuable books. If you sell three books, you get one free! Our goal is to sell two books per student. As with all fundraisers at ACS you are not required to participate.

food pantry

This year, we will continue to collect food for the needy families of Albuquerque. Thank you for your willingness to help with this cause. August and September we will be collecting pasta and sauce in jars. You can drop your donation off in the blue tub located in the lobby.

SUBSTITUTE’S & SUBSTITUTE MEETING

The school is in need of a few good substitutes. If you have the time and are looking for a way to become more involved in at ACS, this is a great opportunity. Come in and ask for a form at the front desk. We will be happy to help get you started. We will also have a meeting for all of the substitutes in Mr. Adams’s office on Wednesday, September 8th, at 3:30 PM. Please make arrangements to attend this meeting. If you are unable to attend, please call Delilah and let her know. If you have been thinking about subbing, but have not filled out an application, please attend this meeting. We appreciate all of your support.
